What if you want to do something a bit different and step beyond the mothers day flowers and a bar of chocolate? Here are some ideas on giving your mum some of the luxury in life she deserves for putting up with you for all those years!

So here are a few ideas for giving your mum a bit of luxury without the ritzy price tag. Possibly the most obvious option is to treat your mum to a slap up meal; whatever your culinary skills, allowing your mum to put up her feet up is a luxury you can afford, especially if you do the cleaning up after too.

If you think about mothers day flowers are another popular option, you could pick some for yourself, buy some cheaper bunches and wrap them in fancy papers or make a nice arrangement in a vase to give. Perhaps even get a pretty pot plant to brighten up a windowsill.

Book mum into a spa for the day – or weekend depending on your budget, perhaps you might like to join her. Nothing says I love you like a diamond, a new pair of sparkly earrings or a necklace will make her feel special.

Other mothers day gifts ideas are a balloon ride complete with champagne and maybe a picnic. Or maybe a trip on the Orient Express if your budget will stretch that far. If you’re looking for luxury with a more modest price tag, a good quality bath soak, oil or beauty cream won’t set you back too much.

1) Mothers day flowers – baskets, posies or potted plants, splash out to brighten your mums day. 2) Jewellery – diamonds, sapphires or rubies – make your mum glitter with gold. 3) Spa treats – pamper your mum whether it be a massage or a manicure, she’s sure to like it. 4) Trips out – take your mum somewhere special and spoil her rotten. 5) Sweet treats – is your mum a chocoholic or is she a sweetie? 6) Lingerie – ok, maybe don’t buy it for her, but a voucher for her favourite outlet would be nice. 7) Cashmere or silk – a silk scarf or cashmere jersey to keep her warm and remind her of you. 8) Shopping trip – you and your mum could jet off to New York or Paris for a bit of retail therapy. 9) Save the planet – maybe your mum would prefer to adopt a panda, or other animal. 10) Champagne – let your mum live the high life for the day, tea at the Ritz or butler for her for the day!

Of course not everyone can afford to really splash out as much as they would like to and home-made, well thought out gifts can sometimes mean much more. Use your imagination and you can still give your mum a treat without breaking the bank.

Whatever you give, or however you choose to celebrate the day, it is still one big reminder that winter is over and warmer days are on the way and there is something to be said for adding that thought to your celebrations.
